Person behind it

My name is Sander Pettersen Heio, and I am the founder of Volum Invest AS.

My interest in financial markets started during my bachelor's degree at BI Oslo and became serious while I took my master's in Finance at Nova School of Business and Economics. It has taken up a large part of my life ever since.

Why I built this

I started working on the idea in the autumn of 2025. I have spent countless hours fine-tuning the algorithm. I wanted an algorithm that could tell me when and what to buy and, more importantly, when to sell.

Selling was always my problem. When a position was well up, I held on, because I thought there was more to come. When it was down, I held on, because I did not want to admit the loss and wait to break even. Both were emotion, not analysis. That is where the money went, not in which stock I picked.

So I wrote down the rules I should have been following and let a machine follow them instead of me. A machine is always better at following the rules than humans. We are filled with emotions and make illogical decisions all the time. Not only does the algorithm follow my rules, but it also uses maths to figure out where the money is going and where you should be positioned to take advantage of that money flow. You can read more about it in my user guide.

What I came to believe

For a long time I assumed buying what was fundamentally cheap was the right thing to do. Over the past few years I have become less convinced.

More of the money moving through markets is now mechanical. Passive index funds keep taking share from active managers, computers execute more of the volume, and AI will likely push that further. When a large part of the buying and selling follows rules rather than an opinion about what a company is worth, price responds to flow as much as it responds to value. And flow does not have to be logical.

That is the assumption Volum Invest is built on. It does not look at earnings, management or valuation at all. It reads price, volume and volatility, because that is where the flow leaves its mark. It looks for strong momentum, follows the trend, lets winners run and cuts losers early.
